In the view of Zhouyi, speeches have the functions of expressing feelings, guiding human actions, and affecting human fortunes and misfortunes. Therefore, when speaking, we must be careful and cautious. Our minds should be peaceful and easy, and we should be able to work with one heart and one mind. Speeches should follow the principles of honesty and credibility, factual basis, orderliness, legitimacy and smoothness, conciseness and rich connotation, euphemism and implicitness, and conformity with reason. As for the acceptance of speeches, we should adhere to two basic methods: one is to repeatedly ponder and understand; the other is to be open-minded and not stubborn.
