The famous American psychiatrist Adolf Mayer’s“psychobiology”theory provided the theoretical basis of modern"biological psychological social"treatment mode, and paved the way for the emergence of psychiatric social work.Richard Lyman, one of Adolf Mayer’s students, brought this theory to China when he was the dean of Neuropsychiatric Department of Peking Union Medical College.Lyman not only practiced the“biological psychological social”treatment mode in Peking Municipal Psychopathic Hospital where the psychiatric social work occurred in China, but also trained the first batch of psychiatrists in China. These psychiatrists and their students extended the model to some parts of China and the psychiatric social work has been promoted. There were also some mental hospitals practicing the model after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, which actually has retained the service content of psychiatric social work.
