Abstract:Breaking the Sound of Evil is one of Luxun’s masterpieces, it contains profound view on Folklore. By carrying out a careful reading of the text, this paper interpreted Luxun’s view of Folklore from religion, temple festival and mythology. The analysis indicated that Luxun’s views on the origin, limitation and social function of folk belief, on the equality of Western and Chinese folk beliefs, and even on the relation between belief and science are all insightful. So a rereading of Breaking the Sound of Evil from the perspective of Folklore is not only illuminating for Folklore Studies, but also enlightening for the policymaking and implementation in the areas of religion and belief.
