Abstract:Records of direct remonstrance began to proliferate in the middle and late west Zhou period because of frequent social problems and the development of language and words. Aged officers as well as elders followed the political education tradition to have criticized Zhou kings through poems and speeches, trying to make the kings face social problems in violating previous kings’ morality, not cultivating themselves according to virtue and losing morale and so on. This could be a reflection on the continuity of aged officers’ responsibility and the promotion of the propriety position of the lords under the background of the collapse of patriarchal clan system at that time.
