Abstract:Cormac McCarthy’s novels posit violence as a methodology to constructing and interacting with the world. In his work, violence plays two roles:it is inherent in the landscape itself, and it is a field where the violence of civilization, brought into its psychological and physical space,is displayed. This paper is structured by examination of violence and power in McCarthy‘s“Child of God”,under the theoretical framework of Foucault’s power. The hero‘s violence is the violence of social reality and all social subjects.More importantly, institutional, political, psychological, and economic foundations are constructed through society’s relationship with violence and the violent subject.
