Abstract:17th century English metaphysical poetry belongs to the category of Baroque literature and is an important part of English culture. Study of the ideological content and artistic style of English metaphysical poetry is of great significance to enriching English Baroque literature and promoting the worldwide spread of English culture. George Herbert is an important representative of British metaphysical poetry, famous for religious lyrics. A study of Herbert’s artistic style and poetic thoughts in the cultural context of Baroque contributes to a comprehensive and multi-dimensional understanding of the connotation and unique artistic charm of Herbert’s religious poetry. It also plays an important role in the understanding of the British Baroque culture.
