Abstract:Leadership behavior is one of significant factors influencing individual creativity. Nowadays, researchers are inconsistent with the classification of leadership behaviors. Consequently, the theory development is obsessed and the leadership practice is confused. Thus, we systematically reviewed empirical studies focusing on the leadership behaviors promoting individual creativity, and classified and defined the identified leadership behaviors using content analysis. We found that leaders’ supporting, inspiriting, visioning, intellectual stimulating, empowering, instructing, recognizing, consulting behaviors associated with individuals’ creativity positively, and those behaviors can be classified into four groups: empowering, considering, motivating and developing. Further, the theoretical contribution of the findings and its implications for creativity management practice are discussed.
