    Abstract:

The Victim is an early representative work of Saul Bellow who is a famous American writer and the winner of Nobel Prize for Literature in 1976. The thesis interprets The Victim with Levinas’s philosophy from such two aspects of the other as a mysterious existence and duty coming before freedom and draws the conclusion that the protagonist of the novel, Leventhal,is a character with the features of the ethics of the other.
