Abstract:Whether to adopt a foreignizing or a domesticating approach in poetry translation has long been a controversy in translation circle. As the two primary translation strategies, however, foreignizing and domesticating are complimentary to each other and mutually reinforcing. From the perspective of targeting readers in western rhetoric, this paper explores the selection of foreignizing or domesticating strategy in ChineseEnglish translation of Tang Poetry so as to set up a bridge for different reader groups over poetic and cultural border.
