Abstract:Media evolution is the study of individual media’s dynamic sequence history such as breeding, generation, development, convergence and demise as well as association structure like competition, interaction and harmonious state between different media within the range of the whole media system. As an important part of media ecology study of North American, the theory of media evolution complies with the general rules of ecology, which is observing process of media evolution in view of media ecological circle, and follows the vertical scalability of history. The process of media evolution is in line with the principle of “progressive”, “succession”, “symbiotic”, “balance”, and “convergence”. Theory of sense of presence and media communication provides a new vision for explaining media evolution. Trends of media evolution comply with the process of certain type of dynamic sequence history.
