Abstract:Deng Xiaoping’s news ideology was the second leap in the combination of Marxist news thought and socialist news practice with Chinese characteristics. Based on the important historical period of reform and opening up and socialist modernization, Deng Xiaoping creatively put forward the important assertion of “making Party’s newspapers and magazines the ideological centre of stability and unity of the country”. As the most important condition for making the Party’s press a centre of thought, seeking truth from facts has constituted the heart and soul of Deng Xiaoping’s thoughts on press and public opinion. “Becoming the ideological centre of national stability and unity” is the logical starting point for understanding the profound connotation of Deng Xiaoping’s thought on news and public opinion. He clarified the mission, core, methodology, and objectives of journalism. Deng Xiaoping’s thesis on adhering to the principle of seeking truth from facts to make the Party’s press “become the ideological centre of stability and unity of the country” has important theoretical value and practical revelation for the Party’s press and public opinion work in the new era.
