Abstract:The debate between Zhuangzi and Huizi is the hinge for studying Zhuangzi Philosophy. Based on the exploration of “Haoliang Debate”, the debate typically reflects the conflict and approbation between their thoughts and consolidates the possibility and necessity of this research idea. This paper is grounded on the focus of their debate, from “value vanity” to “pursue truth” and to the “debate on human relations”. The queries from Huizi clarified Zhuangzi’s points, and embodied the deep seated contradiction of his thoughts: the paradox of liberty and paradox of ego, which is not only the spiritual dilemma of Zhuangzi alone, but also inspires people to carry out rational reflections. So the paradox has dual values of both ontology and epistemology.
