Abstract:This study uses the panel data of 30 provinces and municipalities in China from 2003 to 2014, and constructs a threshold model based on the urbanization rate to examine the OFDI impact on carbon emissions in eastern, central and western regions of China as well as the whole country. The results show that: (1)The OFDI impact on carbon emissions has dualthreshold effect based on the urbanization rate, both at the national and regional levels. The regional threshold value differs from each other, with the highest thresholds in the eastern region, followed by central region, the smallest in the western region. (2) The increase in OFDI will cause an increase in the amount of carbon emissions when the threshold value is below the first threshold. While when threshold value is between the first and second threshold values, the increase in OFDI will inhibit regional carbon emissions. And when threshold value is above the second threshold value, this inhibition effect will become more obvious.
