Abstract:This paper, based on the concepts of "habitus" and "field" in Bourdieu’s sociological theory, tries to examine Western missionaries’ inclination to cultural colonialism in their domesticating and over-foreignizing translations and splitting introduction of Chinese classics under the deep influence of Western centrism. In the meantime,in the current post-colonial context of cultural differentials and hegemony,Chinese translators should shoulder their responsibilities for translating Chinese classics to the world in hope to struggle for cultural capital and discourse power in the world’s producing field of culture and translation and renew Chinese cultural tradition.
