This paper takes as material the compound words of suffix -gate and other morphemes. With the cognitive theories of Conceptual Blending, metaphor, and metonymy, it describes the origin, development and generative processes of this language phenomenon, at the same time, it points out that this can be the result of the two ways of sense extension, that is metaphor and metonymy. The analysis of this phenomenon can help us see the depth of social phenomena.
