The paper deals with the translation of English nominal substitute ‘one/ones’ in Chinese with the purpose of investigating into how nominal substitution is expressed in Chinese where no exact counterpart with English nominal substitute ‘one/ones’ has been found. Based on the English - Chinese Parallel Corpus developed by Xiamen University, the research is conducted within the framework of discourse analysis model proposed by Halliday & Hasan (1976).
