Both sonnet and seven—syllable—verse have strict poetic format in rhythm and structure. Comparative research finds that,although there is big difference in expressing form between sonnet and seven—syllable—verse,both of them show the textual structure pattern of Chinese traditional"o- pening,development,change and conclusion"in semantic coherence.Kaplan thinks that the thinking pattern of English and Chinese language influences textual structure of English and Chinese.Howev- er,based on the research results,although the thinking patterns of the two languages of English and Chinese are different,there is still big similarity in semantic structure of the discourse,thus,there is a defect in Kaplan's textual thinking pattern theory.
