The stream-of-consciousness novel，The Eye of the Storm，makes extensive use of non-traditional syntax and language to reveal the erratic flow of consciousness.There is a clear context beneath its messy surface.Based on the theory of Mental Space Theory （ MSN in short） of cognitive poetics，readers can rely on the basic cognitive experience and the discourse schema to explore the features of MSN in the novel，that is，the back-grounding of the Basic Spaces，hierarchical embedding of the MSN.Building a three-dimensional MSN is helpful to clarify the context of the text，understand life perception in the consciousness of the characters，deepen the theme of the novel，and enhance the aesthetic experience of reading.
