| 歌德以浮士德在知识、爱情、政治、艺术、事业等领域的探索概括了从文艺复兴到19世纪初期西方知识分子追求生命意义的过程。《雨王亨德森》对浮士德精神进行了传承与发展：尽管亨德森沿袭了浮士德对人生意义的五条探索道路，但他为西方知识分子找到的人生价值并不雷同于浮士德的既有结论。通过将“观念小说”《雨王亨德森》与“哲理诗剧”《浮士德》进行比较研究，可以洞察西方知识分子几个世纪以来追求人生价值的心路历程。 |

| Goethe summarized the pursuit of life’s meaning made by western intellectuals from the Renaissance to early 19th century through Faust’s exploration in knowledge, love, politics, art and career. “Henderson the Rain King” inherited and developed Faust’s spirit: though he followed the suit of Faustus’ five roads to approach truth of life, he drew a different conclusion for western intellectuals. Through a comparison between the novel of idea “Henderson the Rain King” and the poetic drama of philosophy “Faust”, western intellectual’s journey to discover value of life in several centuries can be better perceived by readers. |
