针对计算机软件开发方法众多、描述语言不统一等问题，介绍了统一建模语言UML的基本概念，以及基于UML语言的Rational Unified Process(RUP)软件开发过程。通过对图书馆管理系统设计的实例分析，阐述了基于UML的软件开发模型设计。
