The global eco-environmental crisis has made the transformation of countries’ economic development mode a top priority. It also calls for more extensive international cooperation and effective international leadership in the field of sustainable development. With the “13th Five-Year Plan,” China has promoted green finance as a national strategy. This is not only a powerful boost to the transformation of China's economic development mode, but also provides an opportunity for China to lead the world in sustainable development. Then, how does China cultivate the international leadership in green finance in the process of the implementation of national strategy? Based on the comparison and observation of the green finance development facts between China and other countries and existing relevant theories, this article explores the type of international leadership applicable to China's green finance field and builds a theoretical model on how to construct China's international leadership in the field of green finance, meanwhile with the mechanism discussed. The innovation of this article is based on the analysis of theory and facts. First, it demonstrates China’s more specific direction of the international leadership construction in green finance, namely, directional leadership; and more importantly, it is based on the development laws of green economy and green finance. Based on “China's green financial development model”, this article formulates a more in-depth and detailed mechanism for cultivating direction-oriented leadership in green finance, and proposed a three-phase dynamic strategy.
