Reservoir areas of China are faced with new difficulties and new opportunities at the new era and have to explore new development path. The reservoir area of Three Gorges, as the biggest hydroelectric power reservoir in the world, has development difficulties, and the discussion on the difficulties and development path will be of strong reference significance to other reservoir areas. At the new era, the development of Three Gorges Reservoir Area faces many restricting factors such as capacity limitation for accepting national strategic task, the difficulty in relocation and resettlement of a million immigrants and more difficulty in poverty alleviation and poverty removal, and the difficulty in the prevention and control of geological hazards. Based on the high-quality development and the new objective for answering national development strategy and the new regional position, this paper proposes the new path for the development in such three aspects as building new channel in the Area of Three Gorges to break through the pass bottleneck of the Yangtze River waterway, promulgating administrative laws and regulations for the management of the Reservoir Area to accept the national strategy by high-quality, using external science and technology, talents and capital to break the difficulty in industrial evacuation and to promote the high-quality development of green industry, and overall coordinating the all basins of the upper, the middle and the lower reaches of the Yangtze River to protect the ecology of the Reservoir Area for solving the problem in its vulnerable ecology and its narrow environment.
